Junkman's Journey

The solo male in question is one David Grossman, an individual whose talents I have been pleasantly exposed to on more than one occasion.

David is one talented cookie. His has a true troubadour's soul, often overlooked and similarly unappreciated.

Occasionally and unintentionally, sounding like Neil Young during his good years, while later touching ground Leonard Cohen would feel comfortable on, Grossman digs into his demons and questions their authority to have control of his music.

Grossman's music is not contrived, but it is deliberate and with purpose. It is that purpose that sometimes gets a bit cloudy and not easily recognized.

On this, Grossman's latest excursion into himself, "Junkman's Journey,"" he proves all of the above over and over.

Anger, passion, love and hate all sit together and take turns making their case alongside fear, frustration and smiley faces. For his insights, Grossman received "Best Male Folkie" last year from Music Voice. This new outing proves there were no potatoes growing out of our ears in arriving at that decision. Maybe not the best vocalist, but this guy can write one hell of a song.

Grossman can be found doing the Coffee House circuit throughout the valley. Careful though, if you go see him you may have to listen to get the full effect.
